AC/DC TIG Welders for Aluminium and Steel

TIG machines with AC for aluminium, ordered by maker-stated top output, highest first.

By Arcuracy Editorial · Updated October 2026

AC is what lets a TIG welder clean and weld aluminium; DC-only machines stop at steel and stainless. These are the AC/DC TIG welders in our catalog, ordered by the maker's top output, highest first.

Pulse settings and AC balance help control heat on thin aluminium. Many of these also stick weld. OSHA's minimum lens shade for TIG is 8 up to 150 amps and 10 above.

TIG is the slowest arc process and needs the cleanest metal, but gives the most control and the neatest beads.

How this list was builtEvery AC/DC TIG welder in our catalog qualifies. Our editors order them by maker-stated top output, highest first; each note gives pulse, input power and duty cycle.

Picking between them

Decide on AC first: you need it for aluminium. Then output for the thickest metal, pulse for thin work, and what's in the box (foot pedal, torch, gas lens).

TIG duty cycles are often higher than MIG at the same current, but compare at your amps using only stated ratings.

When another list fits better

For steel and stainless only, a DC TIG welder costs less.

Questions welders ask

Do I need AC to TIG aluminium?
Yes for conventional TIG on aluminium; AC/DC machines provide it.
What does pulse do?
It alternates between high and low current to control heat, which helps on thin metal.
Can these stick weld too?
Many can; check the processes in each note.
What shade for TIG?
OSHA's minimum is 8 up to 150 amps and 10 from 150 to 500.
